Our clients had a traditional center-entrance colonial with a tight galley kitchen and separate dining room. In order to make a more open, connected floor plan, we removed several walls, expanding the kitchen into an under-utilized hallway and opening up a portion of the dining room wall resulting in beautiful sight lines into the living room. We installed a granite-topped peninsula that pulls the kitchen and dining room together and provides an extra seating area. We laced in new wood flooring where needed and added matching beams throughout the space. At the other end of the home, our clients wanted to add a full bathroom to their office space. We removed built-in bookshelves and created the bathroom and closet. A small staircase was modified and paneled wall feature duplicated in order to add glass-paned doors which renders the room usable as a bedroom if need be in the future.
